Relevance of Auditing Nursing Records: Integrative Literature Review

Nursing records provide information considering their importance for communication between the multidisciplinary team and the quality of patient care.Despite their essential role, there are concerns regarding the content of these notes.The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between auditing and nursing notes.The research adopted a qualitative approach through an Integrative Literature Review (ILR), analyzing articles published between 2018 and 2023 in the MEDLINE, LILACS, PubMed and Scopus databases.The descriptors “nursing audit”, “nursing records” and “nursing notes” were used, in Portuguese and English, combined with the Boolean operators AND and OR. The study consisted of 10 articles, 8 national and 2 international. It was concluded that auditing is essential to guarantee patient safety, quality of care and legal protection of the professional, ensuring compliance with current legislation and the effectiveness of records.
