To the school, it is necessary to define positions, assuming itself as reproductive agent of oppressive ideologies or as subject capable of intervening in dehumanizing and determinant structures of unequal socio-political-economic structures. Reflecting on the racial issue becomes relevant to recovering a historical debt and not repeating, at the present time, acts based on intolerance and disrespect for ethnic and cultural diversity. In this scope, this work aims to carry out a critical study of a certain period of Brazilian literary history, through a bibliographical review, identifying the place granted to the black population and its struggles, regarding the perspective adopted and the author's positioning values. The theoretical contribution is based on the Bakhtinian theory, specifically on the concepts related to thematization and authorship. The corpus is constituted by the analysis of the reference to the Negro in works of José de Alencar and Bernardo de Guimarães. The results point out, in the thematization of the Negro's condition, the displacement of other discourses to the discourse of the author-creator.
