Abstract

Digital education has become a central element in contemporary educational processes, requiring schools and educators to develop new skills, methodologies, and pedagogical approaches. This article discusses the five pillars of digital education: digital literacy, digital citizenship, critical thinking, digital culture, and pedagogical innovation, as essential foundations for an integral, ethical, and inclusive education. Throughout the discussion, it is highlighted that digital education goes beyond the mere use of technologies, encompassing the construction of values, the development of socio-emotional skills, and the preparation of individuals for conscious and responsible participation in a connected society. The study argues that teachers play a strategic role as mediators of knowledge, guiding the critical use of technologies and fostering pedagogical practices that integrate innovation, inclusion, and humanization. It concludes that investing in the pillars of digital education is indispensable for strengthening educational quality, reducing inequalities, and forming autonomous, critical citizens prepared to face the challenges of the 21st century.
