A proposal for optimizing usability and Artificial Intelligence support of Android for elderly users

Digital inclusion of the elderly population is a growing challenge in an increasingly technology-dependent society. Despite Android's continuous evolution, many seniors still face barriers during its use, compromising their autonomy. This study sought to identify the main limitations faced by the elderly when interacting with Android, aiming for the prototyping and proposal of assistive interfaces and functionalities. The methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, involving a qualitative stage with semi-structured interviews with two elderly individuals, a quantitative stage using a survey with 50 respondents reached through the snowball sampling strategy, and a proposal for solutions to the identified problems. The results point to challenges such as handling difficulties, lack of knowledge in configuring the device, and issues with the system interface, among others. Based on these findings, modern and accessible solutions were proposed to improve usability and utilize artificial intelligence in Android to make the interface more intuitive and adapted to the elderly.
