Pressure Injury Prevention (PIP)

Pressure injuries (PIs) are lesions in the skin and the tissues immediately beneath it. This integrative review aimed to group and synthesize scientific evidence on the prevention of PIs in hospitalized patients, with an emphasis on the integration between nursing and physical therapy. Eight articles extracted from different databases addressing multiprofessional interventions for PI prevention were included. The results indicate that adherence to best-practice protocols, the use of assistive technologies such as alternating pressure mattresses and silicone dressings, and the application of risk assessment scales (Braden) are effective strategies. Continuous team qualification and the involvement of participants in care are also essential. Institutional limitations, such as material scarcity and lack of standardization, compromise the effectiveness of preventive practices. It is concluded that prevention requires an integrated approach, supported by different professional categories and evidence-based practices.
