Introduction: entering higher education can be a period capable of promoting major psychological and social implications, demanding attention to the implications that may arise from this new context. Objective: to analyze the effects of health intervention based on group therapy for university students. Methods and materials: this is an integrative literature review carried out through articles identified in the Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde (BVS), PubMed and PsycInfo, based on a search strategy delimited by PICo and supported by the PRISMA 2020 protocol. Results: from From the search it was possible to identify a corpus of 413 records, of which 14 remained that made up the final sample and resulted in three thematic axes: “The main reasons that lead to the search for services university psychosocial studies”, “Health interventions based on group therapy and the main potentialities highlighted” and “Obstacles and notes highlighted”. Discussions: it was evident that, in addition to having a level of effectiveness similar to other modalities, group therapy approaches enable the development of aspects such as socialization, self-confidence, self-esteem and relationships, as well as identification between experiences. Final considerations: group therapy proves to be a unique alternative in promoting mental health and the general well-being of university students, allowing obstacles to be processed and resolved through joint intervention between peers.
