Chronic illness brings many challenges, which are not always adequately addressed, generating stress and suffering. An integrative systematic review of the literature was carried out in the following databases: PubMed, Web of Science, LILACS, SCOPUS and PsycINFO. Resilience and life expectancy of elderly people with diabetes were associated with determinants related to the individual, the way they face difficulties in the face of treatment, in addition to emotional, religious, social and economic factors.
