Eating disorders are defined as inappropriate and persistent physical and eating behaviors related to extreme emotions that can directly impact the physical and psychosocial health of the individual. They affect more than 30 million people and bring with them significant morbidity and mortality. Effective screening for eating disorders is critical as these disorders are commonly underdiagnosed and undertreated. The present study aimed at a systematic review of the literature on the assessment of eating disorders and their impacts on quality of life, in the last 10 years, specifically from 2010 to 2020, in the PubMed database, in Portuguese and English language articles. The results elicited 5 categories: 1 - Physical/physiological implications (3.3%); 2 – Mental/emotional implications (43.3%); 3 – Social implications (6.6%); 4 – Implications in the maintenance of treatment (6.6%) and 5 – Implications in the aggravation, predisposing factors and reinforcement of the eating disorder (40%). Although the number of articles in this study is relatively small compared to the initial searches in the literature, they were sufficient to portray reality through several possible dimensions, according to the five categories elicited. Even though the sample does not allow a generalization of the findings, they provided an agreement with each other regarding the damage of Eating Disorders in relation to the quality of life of their patients.
