Resumo

A internet tem sido uma ferramenta bem consolidada mundialmente e assim exerce suas influências positivas e negativas. O uso problemático da internet e redes sociais em adolescentes têm sido tema de pesquisas sobre a relação de dependência, depressão e outros transtornos mentais. Esse trabalho visa descrever, de acordo com o meio científico, quais os mediadores, os fatores de risco, os de proteção, a exposição virtual e o uso de substâncias tóxicas legais e ilegais que esses adolescentes estão sujeitos ao utilizar a internet de maneira disfuncional. É um assunto que levanta discussões e divergências entre o suposto vínculo das redes sociais e a depressão em adolescentes, além de que, requer uma atenção para definições formais de doenças, diagnóstico e tratamento.
